Expert information on GM – a service offered by the GenderCompetenceCenter. What’s it all about?



 

What is “Expert Information on GM”?

“Expert Information on GM” is a free consultancy service offered by the GenderCompetenceCenter for staff in the federal government administration service. The goal of “Expert Information on GM” is to support staff in the process of implementing Gender Mainstreaming in their areas of responsibility.


What exactly happens in an “Expert Information on GM” session?

Open questions which have arisen in the process of implementation to date are discussed in a personal interview. The intention is then to find adequate solution proposals in close dialogue with staff of the Center.

The information interview should take between 30 and 60 minutes. If appropriate, the GenderCompetenceCenter can provide materials (“Expert Information on GM”) on implementation in various policy fields.

Other meetings can follow if required. The form of the consultancy is flexibly geared to the specific needs of the enquiry. Input may also be provided by GenderCompetenceCenter staff in the form of lectures or workshops.


On which implementation issues is advice given in an “Expert Information on GM” session?

In an “Expert Information on GM” session, issues arising from implementation of GM in the policy fields of the federal government administration service are addressed. These include
  • Organisational development: how can current processes be structured in a way that is geared to gender equality? How can the Government’s Working Aids be used here? What competencies are needed for sustained implementation?
  • Staff development: how can performance assessments be developed such that they are non-discriminatory in order to enhance the motivation of both female and male staff?
  • Reporting: how can reports be written in such a way that they are oriented to gender equality?
  • Data and statistics: which gender-differentiated data are important for specific tasks and where can they be obtained quickly?

“Expert Information on GM” sessions support staff in the implementation of Gender Mainstreaming by means of the targeted transmission of knowledge about implementation, thus contributing to sustained implementation in day-to-day working life.
Because new skills are communicated to staff at a practical level staff can update their knowledge easily and be given specific suggestions for action. This can help to increase motivation and acceptance for the implementation of Gender Mainstreaming.
